Malik Flint was raised in Little Rock before his career expanded in Los Angeles, and his music holds both places without shrinking either one down to a bio bullet point. The Arkansas foundation and the West Coast expansion share the same sound, and neither one fights for control of it.
Two cities, one language
Flint calls his sound tropical funk, and the label fits because the records refuse to sit in one genre. R&B, hip-hop, pop, funk and electronic textures overlap, with the bass, percussion and melody doing as much storytelling as the lyrics. His work as a producer and multi-instrumentalist counts here, since the arrangement itself carries his identity.
