As SL Jones, the Flint-born, Little Rock-raised rapper built a respected Southern rap résumé on direct writing and regional collabs. Going public as Cuz Lightyear in 2015 gave him a name with more room around it, less tied to one expectation and more open to melody, singing and switching styles.
The old catalog became the foundation
Jones already knew how to carry a verse and build inside Southern production, so Cuz Lightyear let those skills work on records where atmosphere and melody could carry more of the weight.
Reinventing yourself doesn’t require pretending the old you was a mistake, and this identity reads like permission to use a bigger toolkit. Little Rock stays central through both names, even on records that never mention the city out loud, because the discipline he built there is what carries over.
