SAGE Couldn’t Find an Engineer. She Made “Stand The Rain” Anyway.

The independent R&B singer says she recorded, edited, mixed and mastered her September 11 single at home, with an Uncle Rico freestyle recorded two years earlier.

SAGE had a message she could not hear herself singing. So the independent R&B artist delivered it as rap on “Stand The Rain,” a September 11, 2026 single with Uncle Rico. The unusual part is what it took to finish the record.

In an October 2 message to FVTV Media, SAGE said she could not find an engineer while working on the song. She recorded it at home, chopped the audio together, then mixed and mastered it herself, despite having no prior engineering experience.

“I am a singer, not a rapper,” she wrote. The words she needed to get off her chest, she explained, did not fit the way she normally sings. Instead of waiting for a cleaner setup, she released the version she had built.

A freestyle from two years earlier

Uncle Rico’s contribution has its own backstory. According to SAGE, he recorded the verse as a freestyle two years before the release. She worked that performance into “Stand The Rain,” pairing his soulful contribution with her sharper delivery.

FVTV’s original curator review highlighted the back-and-forth and conviction in SAGE’s verses, while observing that Rico’s vocal sat low relative to hers. SAGE responded by explaining how the original came together and why she chose to release it.

Recording without an engineer

The 2026 press kit credits SAGE with writing and producing “Stand The Rain,” as well as mixing and mastering it. The kit names The Crib Studio as the recording location. The artist separately explained that she assembled and finished the session herself at home.

For SAGE, releasing the track became a way of getting the message heard rather than postponing it while waiting for professional studio help.

What comes after the original

SAGE said on October 2 that a remastered, clean live version was being planned to improve the vocal balance. She did not provide a confirmed release date for that version.

Her press kit also lists a separate upcoming single, “Love Don’t Live Here No More,” for November 11, 2026. That date refers to the next song, not to the proposed remaster. Production on the next single was still ongoing when the kit was prepared.

For “Stand The Rain,” the result is already public: SAGE wanted the story heard, finished the session herself and put the record out rather than waiting for somebody else to make it possible.
