SPACED OUT GECKO isn't making the listener guess where the inspiration came from. The UK artist put it right in the title of “WU TANG,” a short hip-hop record that leads with the texture and attitude of an earlier era.

In FVTV's October curator review, the track stood out for its dusty, raw feel and the confidence of an artist still early in his release history. At about two and a half minutes, it makes the reference plainly, then gets out of the way.

An introduction through the records he respects

Wu-Tang's shadow is an intentional part of the presentation. The FVTV review heard the record as a tribute to classic hip-hop rather than an attempt to hide its influences. The production keeps an old-school edge, with enough restraint for the rapper to occupy the center.

The song's economy matters. A debut-era artist can try to put an entire biography inside one track. “WU TANG” instead makes a compact first impression: a particular sound, a clear reference point and an invitation to see what he builds from there.

A UK songwriter with a wider palette

SPACED OUT GECKO is the recording name of Darren Scott. In a written biography sent directly to FVTV, Scott describes his broader music as laid-back hip-hop shaped by cosmic synths, hypnotic rhythms and punchlines. His cited reference points include Curren$y, Larry June and Kota the Friend.

That combination gives some context to the name. Scott's own description leans toward late-night listening and a spacious atmosphere, while “WU TANG” puts a rougher, more traditional hip-hop influence up front. He began releasing material in 2026; this song is one early stop, not a complete picture of his catalog.

The people on the record

Scott identified himself as the writer and LVWIS as producer in correspondence with FVTV on October 20. He did not claim that sample clearance had been verified, and none is implied here. The credited work and the publicly released recording are the basis of this feature.

An artist who announces an influence this clearly also sets a challenge for whatever comes next. The interesting question is how much further SPACED OUT GECKO can take those touchstones once his own sound has more space to develop.
