The October 26 drill release is most revealing when Mufasa turns from confrontation to the story behind it.

King Mufasa’s “Gang,” released October 26, moves at a drill record’s relentless pace, but the moments that give it staying power are the ones that reveal something about the person delivering it.

The song wastes little time establishing its direction. A short opening gives way to a forceful verse, and the momentum holds for roughly two minutes and twenty-four seconds. The title is a challenge to anyone adopting the appearance of street affiliation without living the reality. The accusation at the center of the track gives the performance a clear target.

The more revealing material arrives earlier, when Mufasa references being broke and at his lowest before circumstances changed. Those details provide a lived-in counterweight to the threats and familiar drill imagery. That contrast is where his writing becomes distinctive: the listener gets a glimpse of what the bravado is defending.

The record’s tempo and delivery are well matched. At the same time, the most conventional violent bars risk disappearing into a crowded drill field. The more specific the story becomes, the more identifiable Mufasa’s voice sounds. “Gang” already has energy and conviction. Leaning further into the hardship and recovery behind the performance could give future releases even more weight.
