Jason Jarrett has paid the bills, fed the kids and called the sitter. On “Night Out,” all that preparation is for one thing: a few hours of pretending he is 25 again.

The Michigan singer puts the whole plan in the hook, including the line that makes the song feel like an actual couple’s Friday: “We ain’t parents right now.” Jarrett understands how funny that promise sounds coming from two people who will absolutely be parents again by breakfast.

He keeps the scene moving instead of running through generic reasons to party. There is a borrowed hat, a stolen kiss and one more round. Then comes the punchline that gives the celebration a deadline: the kids are waking up at seven tomorrow morning. Making poor decisions tonight has consequences, even if they are ordinary ones.

The polished contemporary-country arrangement makes the chorus easy to catch, but it rarely throws the listener a curve after the first go-round. A stripped-down section or an unexpected musical turn would make the final chorus hit harder. The writing has enough personality to carry it. “Night Out” is for grown people whose calendar never really stops, even when the music does.
