Donny’s Black Shoes Make “Keep Turning” a Conversation Between the Band
An onstage San Javier performance makes the musicians’ collective timing as important as the song’s call for change.

There is a difference between recording a band and capturing the way musicians react to one another in real time. “Keep Turning,” credited to Donny’s Black Shoes and presented as a live performance from San Javier, belongs in the latter category.
The band places a direct human message at the center of the song, returning to the idea that the world needs to change. Rather than make that message into an elaborate metaphor, the arrangement reinforces it through rhythm and shared dynamics.
The verses look outward, toward children, mothers under pressure and young people facing uncertainty. Piano gives the performance an anchor, while the rest of the musicians answer and support one another. That shared timing is the performance’s strongest quality.
There is a trade-off in the live presentation. The extended closing repetition may feel earned inside a concert room, where the audience can respond, but repeated listening makes the final stretch seem less focused. A tighter recorded edit could deliver the central message more decisively without losing the character of the live take.
For now, “Keep Turning” makes the case that the interplay between the musicians is worth following.
